View Full Version : Encouragement about different twin pregnancies?

Hi,
I am 10 wks pregnant with twins (again!). Our boys are 10 months old now. The pregnancy with the boys was pretty rough - I had pre term labor issues from 24 wks on and spent 10 weeks in the hospital. I was on bedrest for a total of 11 wks. The boys were born at 35 weeks and were quite healthy (just a little jaundice that re-hospitalized us and a club foot for Addy). I'm very fortunate that we have 2 healthy boys.
Now, with this pregnancy I'm scared to death of the same scenario. Being in the hospital was sooo tough even when I didn't have kids at home - I can't imagine being away from my boys for 10 weeks!! It makes me cry to think about it. But, I know I will do whatever is necessary to have healthy babies.
Ok- so, finally to my question: Has anyone had a tough twin pregnancy and then have an easy twin pregnancy? That is what I'm hoping for.....
Thanks!

I haven't been through this, but I'm praying for an easy pregnancy for you! I know lots of people who have had a rough first pregnancy and and easy second one... but those have been with singletons not twins... There is hope! Just keep doing everything you can to stay healthy, happy, and low stress!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!

Our boys were our first pregnancy, so I haven't been through a second twin pregnancy, but just wanted to encourage you and congratulate you!! :)
I can totally see how this pregnancy would be a bit of concern after already having a difficult one.
Hopefully things will go better this time, but try not to dwell on what ifs...just do what you can do to take care of all 5 of you (you and babies inside and out) the best you can, and that's all you can do. Worrying will only make it worse (easier said than done, I'm sure!), and I hope someone replies with some encouraging news and advice for you!
Congratulations again! :)

I just wanted to share that I am feeling the same way. My first twin PG was rough. I had preterm labor at 26 weeks and they weren't able to stop it. To this day, they are unsure as to what caused the labor.
So now with this twin PG I am concerned that the same thing could happen again. The positive is I know what labor feels like, and I have been through the worst and know what to expect.
After the initial shock of having another set of twins, my thoughts are God would not have given me this opportunity if he didn't think I could handle it. So, I am going to make the best of my next six months and pray. I will add your family to my prayers as well, since I know how hard it is.
Keep us posted on the progress!!!

There is something to be said about too much thinking. My 1st twins were in the same sac and born c-section at 34 weeks. A lot could of gone wrong but I choose not to go there. I read all the info after I had them and thank God I didn't read it during my PG.
My second set were in seperate sacs and was a totally different PG. And I went with the same theory, stay possitive and forget all the horror stories. We went to 37 1/2 weeks.
Either it worked or God felt sorry for me! I believe, we as humans, are self fullfilling. What runs through our heads can manifest into reality. Take control of you thoughts and stay as possitive as possible. The less stress the better.
Then go and buy paper plates, silverware, and cups, so you don't have to worry about all the dishes piling up. Ask your family or friends to help with the laundry, so that you will have clean clothes through it all. Then trust in yourself. You did this before and you know what your limits are. Let your DH pamper you as much as possible. Sit back , put your feet up and smile.
I remember my big girls would stay just out of my reach when I got mad at them. And I'd tell them "just wait until I can get up and get you!" They would giggle. They had a blast laying on the couch with me. We got to have a lot of one (two) on one time. That made it easier to stay distracted and stress free.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Keep Smilin!

I was on bedrest at home for 10 wks with my first set of identical boys, 6 yrs ago. I have another set of id. boys that are 10 months old now and that pregnancy was perfect. no bedrest, nothing. water broke at 37 wks.
(csection since both were breech).
take care and good luck!
ps. everyone tried to tell me that both my sets were fraternal, but dna shows them both to be identical.. dna is the only way to tell with same sex twins ; )
odds of 2 sets of id twins is 1 in 70k.
odds of one set id and one set frat is 1 in 10k.

Hi Diane,
With both sets of twins we were/are in the 20% of cases where the u/s could not tell whether ID or fraternal : same sex, two placentas.
It is believed that my boys are fraternal. We have not done any DNA testing, but they look VERY different. One is fair skinned and blonde, one is darker complected and brown hair. At 1 year, they were even 5 lbs. different and about 2 inches different in size.
My peri believes the girls to be fraternal as well b/c of my history. I have a great Aunt that had 2 sets of twins.
I'm very encouraged about your different twin pregnancies. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

You go!!!
So far I am doing well with my second preg. I did find out that I am having two boys, which is the same as the first time. I am 24 wks 3 days and am doing really well. My cervix is starting to soften, so I am looking at bedrest in the next week or two. But, bedrest is better than having them early.
I hope you continue to do well throughout your preg.

Hi...Glad your doing so well! I am a single mom to 2 sets of twin boys ages 7 and 10. I have a fibroid that complicated my pregnancies both times though with the help modern medicine and lots of bed rest I carried both sets to term. My first set was born vaginally and my second c-section after many hours of labor. Praying for continued health and lots of joy!
Many Blessings...Marilyn

32 weeks and things are still good. My cervix is long and closed. The babes are 4 lbs each. I'm still taking progesterone shots to prevent pre term labor. I've been taking them weekly since 15 wks and my peri wants to continue them until 36 wks.
I'm in a lot of pain now. Mainly just my back - specifically my Sacro Iliac joint. I also had this pain with the boys too. uggh.... but, this time (mentally) I am much better without the 10 wks of hospital bedrest.
Michelle, how are you doing?

I would love to have another set of twins - how were you guys so lucky??? Is it just strong family history or modern medicine? Is there anything I can do to increase my chances?

Even though we already have four kids. I would love to have another set of twins. What a double blessing you all have again. I was also on bedrest for eight days in the hospital with two kids left at home for my husband to take care of, my mind was on them the whole time. My husband took everything under control and did a wonderful job. Our oldest son was 6years old at the time and the only one in school had just started his Christmas Break. Our 2 year old took it the hardest he's my breast-fed baby (for 2 years) would cry when he left the hospital. He would also cry when he got home to go to bed, they would call to tell me goodnight, but all I would get were tears. To me that was the hardest part. But everyone and all those beautiful babies are in JESUS HANDS!!!!

For me, I was on fertility drugs for the 1st set, but spontaneous for the second set. Quite a surprise for us I might add.
I don't have any suggestions for improving your chances for more multiples, but good luck!

I had two great twin pregnancies that lasted 40 weeks without any complications. So, it is possible to have great twin pregnancies several times. Just make sure you gain enough weight (at least 45 lbs., I gained over 70 each time which I shed quickly). Read Dr. Luke's book "When you're expecting twins, triplets and quadruplets".
Best of luck.
HI How did you lose the wieght with both of your pg? i lost only some of the wieght from my first twin pg,but now i have already started packin on the pounds with this twin pg

I am on my second twin pg with out medical help. My doc told me if your first set of twins are faternal then your chances of having another set is very high. good luck.

Ok, so here I sit, still pregnant. No bedrest. No restrictions! 35 1/2 wks. The babies estimated weights are 6 lbs and 6 1/2 lbs. My specialist wants me to go to 37 wks before they do a c-section (both babies breech). Wow, so I guess I do know now - you can have completely different twin pregnancies!
Now, I'm just freaking out about all the increased responsibility/work we are about to add to our already very busy family life. 4 kids under 17 months. Wowsie. Any advice multiple mulitiple Mommies?
:)
suprised!
