View Full Version : Success with FET
Hi everyone. I have fraternal twin girls, and was planning on doing a FET in December. Has anyone has success with a FET? I really want this to work. We have 3 embies left. I was just wondering about the statistics (if anyone has any info. or even any good websites with info.) - Thanks!

I don't know any statistics or anything, but my twins were FET & they were already a year old before they were implanted so my success rate was pretty darn good!.
Good luck with it all, hope it works on the first try.
cheers,
Wendy :D

I don't have any stats but I have a successful FET baby. My twins were fresh IVF and my singleton was an FET. I had an unsuccessful FET in between the twins and my singleton (miscarriage at 6w6d).
With both FETs, 4 embryos were thawed, 3 survived the thaw and were transferred, and one embryo implanted.

Truffles reminded me; I too had one unsuccessful FET; 2 embryos thawed, both survived, neither implanted. On our 2nd FET, 2 embryos thawed again & both are now 3 years old (& driving me crazy at times :p )

My twins are successful FET. My dd was a fresh IVF transfer. It took us nearly 6 yrs to decide to try again. It amazes me that my boys were frozen that long! They transfered 2 and we had both!!
Wow thanks for the info. - That gives me hope. These guys have been frozen 2 years this Dec. - I only have 3 left (there were a total of 5 fert. and the 2 fresh were my girls and we froze the remainder). I hope it works!! I willl keep you posted!

Good Luck!!! Its so much easier with FET. You still have the progesterone shots and estrogen patches but so much easier that all that initial stuff.
Oh..I forgot to add...The clinic we used has its pregnancy rates posted on their website. Did you do a search to see if your dr. does this also? I looked at the success rate (posted for 2002) and it was 39% for FET under age 35. I think it varies slightly from clinic to clinic.

Just curious, we are planning a FET in the next coming months with our two remaining frozen embryos. Were yours grade A, or whatever the rating is? Our girls were our grade A embryos, and the two remaining were of a lower quality. We are still going to give it a try.

I can't remember the grades from the first FET but from the second FET (successful) there were 3 embryos transferred.
The three were as follows:
Grade 2 - 4 cell
Grade 2 - 2 cell
Grade 3 - 2 cell
With Grade 1 being the best quality and Grade 5 being the worst.
One of those successfully implanted and resulted in my DD#2, Isabella. :)
I know my embies are 8 cell (B), 6 cell (B) and a 4 cell (B). With the girls, I didn't have to take the shot and now I am scared I am gonna have to take it. I hope I don't have to - I hope i can still use the supp. like last time!!

hey there ladies
this is just the info/input i was looking for
i am starting my first FET tomorrow (i can't believe it)
i go in for my baseline bloodwork. i have twins from my fresh cycle
back in the summer of 2002 (my transfer was aug 2003)
anyway - i just moved and had my embryos shipped to my new clinic
(which i read puts no extra harm on the embryos). i have 8 little ones left ranging from 7 cell down to 4 cell (i think).
my question is about how many to transfer. my new dr said depending on how they are frozen (1 or 2 in a dish) he plans to thaw the best one(s) first
then transfer. i want him to transfer a high number to increase my changes of success however my dh does not want twins again so he would like to transfer 1 or maybe 2. (during our fresh cycle i wanted to transfer 3 for the same high success rate but my RE said 3 only increased my rate of triplets - he was right we transfer 2 and got twins).
what do you think? i am surprised that i am not completly obsessd with my fet - i guess haivng 17 mo old twins running around i am a little too busy.
any advice etc would be great
thanks, cicely
My doc said she will thaw one embie at a time - if the 1st one looks good, she will leave it at that (which means the next FET I will transfer 2 - we have 3 total and 2 more tried w/ ins. coverage). I kind of want to transfer 2 this time and leave the single for last. I just don't want to get used to having one and then go back to twins, but either way, as long as it is successful, I will be happy! :)

I had a successful FET transfer with one embryo thawed and implanted last December. My son was born on 9/2/04. The one embryo was at our request and the doctors tried to talk us into two on several occassions. However, we were not willing to risk a multiple pregnancy again, just our position. It was successful the first try!!! Our embryos were frozen for 3 and 1/2 years when the transfer took place. Good luck!!
Jennifer
Jennifer - Congrats!! Makes me a little more confident! I wanted to put 2 in this time and then we will have one embie left for the future. I just figured I already know what it is like raising twins, and if I had a single pregnancy then I may be spoiled if when we did the next transfer with 2 and it took (did this make sense?)

hey ladies
i wanted to let you know that i am in the 2ww
and will find out if i am PS on 11/15
we only transferred one emmie - and lost 4 other in thaw
the one we transfered waws a 10cell so i am praying that
it sticks. we have 3 more 7 cells left.
i am concerned that because i am running around behind the
twins so much the emmie will not stick. i know that is
silly because women have gotten PG for years while chasing other kids, working the field, and other manual jobs.
i will keep you posted on the success

Good luck!! Please keep me posted. I am sending good vibes your way.
Jennifer
Good luck to you!! I will be doing my FET transfer on the 17th of this month!! I only have 3 frozen and if the 1st one thaws well, she is just transferring that one, so I am really nervous!! I hope they make it through the thaw at least!! I know how you are feeling!!

hey ladies
bad news - i had a negative beta test today
we lost 4 in thaw, transferred 1 but it did not implant
i am trying to find comfort in the previous stories of an unsuccessful
fet followed by an successful one
my nurse siad i could do another cycle right away and be PG by xmas
i am not sure what i will do. we have 3 7cell emmies frozen, but they
are all in one container so i guess i am scared thet they make not
make a thaw then i would have to do all the shots etc again
as much as i felt like this cycle was not going to work it was very
hard to hear the nurse tell me negative.
i do have 2 great kids and i am trying to just stay focused on that blessing
i'll keep you posted cicely

I am sorry to hear about your failed FET. I know how you feel about going through another round of FET or a fresh cycle. It is so hard! I wish you all the best with whatever you decide. Just remember, you have your beautiful children through IVF so you know miracles happen and there is every reason to believe it will work for you again!! Good luck!!
Jennifer
Cicely - I am sorry too. I just had my transfer today and am not feeling too positive! We had 3 embys left. 2 8 cells (A & B) and then a 4B. Well only the 4B made it throught the thaw, but it had gone down to a 2 cell!! I only found a couple of people who said that their embys had lost some cells. I hope this is normal, but again, not feeling too positive since it was only a 2 cell and also since they only could transfer the one! :(

treeburge - good luck!! I don't have any info on the fact that the emby lost cells. What did the doctor say? I was positive I was not pregnant when we did the FET transfer of one emby but I was. Please keep me posted!
Jennifer
Jennifer - the more I have read on it, the more it seems that it is normal for the embies to lose cells after the thaw. Now my main concern is/was the size (2-cell). Well I guess if it is meant to be, it will happen. I should count myself lucky to be blessed with Audrey & Charlotte. I was just hoping I could give them a little brother or sister. I will keep you posted!
